Fourth of July Safety – There Will Be Fireworks

Fireworks are a beautiful spectacle that can cause awe and sometimes injury to their audience. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that there is an average of 230 fireworks-related injuries on or near July 4th. If you plan on putting on your own fireworks show for your neighborhood, the CPSC recommends leaving a bucket of water nearby, never relighting fireworks that did not ignite, and lighting fireworks one at a time, making sure to move back to a safe distance once they are lit. Follow these tips then sit back, relax and enjoy the show safely without becoming another statistic.

Always Moisturize

Keeping your skin properly moist is essential to its health. According to Michael Lin, MD, medical director of the Advanced Dermatology and Skin Cancer Institute, “Dry skin can have small gaps in the skin barrier that allow entry of bacteria and fungus.” To keep your skin properly moisturized, drink plenty of water while also using the correct moisturizing cream for your skin type. It’s important to look for products that contain hyaluronic acid, coconut oil or ceramides.

Don’t Stay in a Pool Daze

Taking a dip in a refreshing pool is supposed to be a fun break from the heat of summer. However, more than 200 children drown each year in backyard pools. This tragic statistic reflects just how important pool safety should be in your backyard. Consider installing a 4-feet-tall fence around your pool with a self-latching, self-closing gate to ensure no one enters your pool while it is unattended. Also, ensure that your family knows how to swim and measures to take in a pool crisis situation such as CPR.
